Let's Talk Wedding Blogging

I love weddings.  That's no secret.  I love blogging about weddings.  That's probably not a secret either.    What might be a secret is that I find it hard to blog about weddings.   CrayZayTown!

How can that be, you ask?  Well, while I was considering how to answer that question, I counted my cursor blinking approximately 82 times.  And therein lies my problem-o.  I am easily distracted.  Sounds bad?  Not really, what I'm distracted by is all the pretty wedding information one can find online these days.  I get so busy reading other wedding blogs and websites and pinning on Pinterest, that my little blog falls by the wayside.

Additionally, I'm seriously critical of myself (aren't we all), and even more so when I stop to think that what I'm putting out there for the world (well, 8 followers) to see will be...gasp...judged by others!  My worst nightmare!  I fear being judged and deemed inadequate.  There.  I've admitted it.  So instead of upping my game, I make excuses for why I have no time to blog.  BS radar detector is beep, beep, beeping!!

So, I've decided to leave all that worry behind and do what I love.  Prepare to see fresh content more regularly.  I won't promise daily, and in doing so I'll avoid disappointing both you and me.  But I do promise content.  Fun ideas. Beautiful wedding eye-candy.  Maybe even a DIY project or two.  Stand by...

P.S.  If you want to become a follower, look to the right.  And if you want to show me some love, you can "like" me over at www.facebook.com/deannanashevents.  No judging, I promise!

Feeling a little Mad(Men)-ish this afternoon...

Confession: I've only watched a few episodes of "Mad Men." There. I've said it. It's on my Netflix list, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. However, I'm "mad" about the wardrobe and styling, and love seeing designers incorporate this style into their collections.

Happy Friday!  Here's to getting around to a few more episodes this weekend! Enjoy!

Wedding Dress Wednesday - Grand Entrances and Exits

When shopping for your wedding dress, of course you should look for a dress that will frame you beautifully as you make your grand entrance toward the altar, but what about once you get there?  As I was looking through my Dreamy Dresses board on Pinterest, I noticed that almost every dress I pin is beautifully adorned, many of them with spectacular back details, and thought I would share some of the dreaminess.   What dress details most often catch your eye?
Yes, I know this is a front shot, but (1) what a GRAND entrance this would make (and I just KNOW is has an amazing back), and (2) it's Elie Saab, and I can never get enough of his stunning creations.
Happy Wednesday!

Plans of a Planner - A Change of Course

As you might imagine, plans are everything to a planner.  Heck, as a wedding planner, the word plan is even part of my title.  Just as important as a good plan, though, is the ability to roll with the punches when the plan changes.  And friends, my plans have changed.

Rather than the country club wedding we were planning, we've decided to elope!  Some might question my use of an exclamation point at the end of that sentence, but it's one of the most perfectly placed exclamations I have ever used (and for those of you who know me, you know that I'm a prolific user of the e.p.).  See, I'm very excited for us and for our new plan.  In actuality, eloping was our first plan of action, even before we were engaged, so we've come full circle back to what we really wanted to do.

What's the plan?  Glad you asked.  In the early spring we're traveling up to beautiful San Francisco and getting married in that city's iconic City Hall.  Our amazing photographer has agreed to go with us, and of course the day wouldn't be complete without our parents and my future brothers-in-law.  A month or so later, we'll travel to...wait for it...Paris for more photos and our honeymoon!  I am SO excited.

Lesson for other brides:  follow your heart, do what feels right to you.  Do I regret my country club plans?  No way, definitely not.  It would have been a beautiful way to celebrate our marriage.  We've just decided to stay true to ourselves and do what feels most like us.

Happy 1st Anniversary Becca & Chris!!

One year ago today I had the pleasure of seeing this beautiful couple exchange wedding vows!  I can't believe it's been a year already.
We had planned their ceremony for the wide green lawn at Malibou Lake Mountain Club, but mother nature wasn't in the mood to cooperate that day.  With the early afternoon came rain, first a drizzle, then large drops.  Lucky for us, the side patio of the clubhouse was covered, and with a few heaters added made the perfect back-up ceremony site.

Becca's favorite color, purple, played a big role in setting the tone for the day.  Along with the fall foliage and the mountains surrounding the club, it was the perfect note to offset a grey day.

I had so much fun with these two, and now have the privilege of calling them friends.

We spent many a weekend hunting down vendors and coming up with fun ideas for their wedding, and when the big day arrived, it was nothing short of amazing!

Thank you Becca and Chris for allowing me to be a part of your wonderful wedding!!

If it's Monday it Must Be Love...Vintage-Inspired Tabletops

Ah, Monday, how I love thee...well, at least I love writing about weddings on Mondays! This week's installment of I love Mondays is one of my favorite themes for a wedding - Vintage-inspired tabletops. I love love love the look of vintage pieces mixed and matched with current pieces for the perfect table arrangement. Vintage can be interpreted in many ways, from many eras. For Jasmine and David's reception, we used mix-and-match tables and chairs, nixed the idea of table linens, and added old house numbers to act as table numbers.

Jasmine's Mom Denise spent months hunting down the perfect shade of aqua blue-green Ball jars to act as vases, and we incorporated clear Ball jars as candle holders. Finally, our fantastic florist, Holly Flora, incorporated some of their funky vases to highlight their beautiful flower arrangements. Vintage perfection.
For Alyssa and Anselm's wedding, we interpreted vintage as a bright palette of flowers in funky vcontainers to give a 60's MadMen-ish vibe. We used simple white linens and minimalist place settings to complete the look. It was unique and fun, and perfectly matched this lovely couple's aesthetic.

Another favorite idea - forgoing plain rented china for old patterened sets. I love this look, and this totally lends itself to my love of scouring flea markets. For someone who loves having old pieces around, this is a great way to both build your collection and formulate the perfect, one-of-a-kind table setting. If you want a unique look and love vintage - this is the way to go to ensure your look is like no other.

Happy Monday!

Rachel and Lonney, March 20, 2010

Sometimes, all the stars align, everything is just right, you meet your soulmate, fall in love, there is a proposal, followed by the most perfect wedding. At least that's my version of Rachel and Lonney's story.

I met Rachel and Lonney just about a year ago and immediately knew I wanted to work with them. They are fun, loving, dedicated to each other, family-people, who also just happen to have two adorable corgis.

All the stars aligned again a couple of weeks ago for their perfect wedding day. All of the elements were in place: a beautiful bride, dashing groom, breathtaking venue, fun-loving guests and fantastic vendors. I'll let the photos from amazing photographer Susan Bordelon tell the rest of the story...

And once again, an ocean of gratitude to our wonderful vendors:

East Coast Style + West Coast Vibe = Fun, Fabulous Wedding!

Jessica and Ryan trekked from the East Coast westward for their March 13 wedding in Marina del Rey. Held at the amazing Ritz-Carlton Hotel, theirs was one of the most fun-filled weddings I've been privileged to be a part of. They were fun. Their families and guests were fun. Even the food was fun!

After a cold rainy week, beautiful weather prevailed and their nuptials went off without a hitch.

Check out the fabulous photos by the VERY talented Wayne Yuan Photography.

Thank you to all of the amazing vendors who made this event a night to remember!
